New report says Beverly Hills developer has ‘not provided the various economic, traffic and related reports upon which its initiative is based’
ESCONDIDO - The City of Escondido has released a revealing 36-page report that says a proposed housing development would:
  • Increase traffic by more than 5,000 daily trips
  • Use 173,600 more gallons of water each day than the golf course did
  • Drive up maintenance and operation costs for the City of Escondido, eliminating all property tax gains
  • Reduce open space and diminish the aesthetic appeal of Northwest Escondido
  • Conflict with existing land-use policies
  • Lead to costly street and roadway improvements
The report is good news for “Keep it Green Escondido” a local campaign recently formed to oppose Beverly Hills developer Michael Schlesinger’s misleading initiative headed for the November ballot. Schlesinger’s initiative would turn the former Escondido Golf Course into a massive housing development that would bypass state environmental laws and add hundreds of students to overcrowded schools.
