Property owners, managers, and other industry professionals turn out for panels, educational classes, and guest speakers. ![]() SAN DIEGO – April 17, 2017 --- The San Diego County Apartment Association’s (SDCAA) 43rd Annual Educational Conference and EXPO, held Thursday, April 13, at the San Diego Convention Center, drew 2,000 attendees. EXPO-goers had a chance to visit with approximately 180 exhibitors and industry experts who were present to share their wealth of knowledge on a variety of topics from fair housing laws to creating energy efficient buildings. “Every year we strive to make the expo more interesting and more educational than the last,” said SDCAA’s Executive Director Alan Pentico, “A large part of that is staying up to date with market trends and making sure we bring in exhibitors and speakers that will appeal to everyone, from first-time owners to owners with a dozen properties.” This year, attendees learned about customer service trends for 2017 during a keynote speech from Albert Mensah, a certified speaking professional. They also listened to keynote speaker Sarita Maybin share effective tips for constructive communication with colleagues and tenants. Other educational panels included “I didn’t know I couldn’t say that! – Fair Housing for Everyday Use” and “Don’t get hacked! – Technology Tips to Keep Your Business Safe!” in addition to panels on property management, energy efficiency, and legislative news, as well as ask an attorney sessions. “The San Diego County Apartment Association Education Conference and EXPO is a must-attend event for companies who provide products and services to the rental housing industry,” said Tom Tamar of City Wide Protection Services, the expo’s title sponsor. “It’s an important part of growing our business and maintaining connections.” In addition to panels and keynote speakers, the expo hosted its annual Maintenance Mania tournament where technicians complete tasks and compete against one another. Joel Martinez took first place for the fifth year in a row, followed by Enrique Martinez in second and Enrique Curiel Jr. in third. All three technicians work for Lincoln Military Housing. SDCAA is a member of the largest and most influential rental housing coalition in California. A non-profit organization that has served the rental housing industry since 1919, SDCAA’s 2,200 members are rental property owners, rental property managers and suppliers of goods and services to the rental housing industry. The overall improvement of the rental housing industry is a primary focus of SDCAA, which represents single-family rental homes to the largest multi-family rental communities. SDCAA provides a wide range of services to its members, including legislative advocacy, education and resident screening.
